Week 69: Time!!

Guys, what is time? Where does it go when you use it up? And how do you use it up so fast? It's starting to really freak me out. Also a big AUGURI (best wishies; Happy birthday!) to Alyssa who turned 19 this week (October 16th). Hope ya didn't do anything too wild ;)

I promise I'll write a good letter this week because last week's was so bad. That is what happens when you are in the host city for zone conference. We didn't get much of a pday because we were ferrying
people across the city and making sure that all the other sisters were taken care of and not lost in the maze of the city. We had fun though:)

It was my second to last zone conference, which hurts a little (a lot). I almost started crying while we were singing the mission hymn, then I sucked the tears in and told them they'll have to wait till next time. I'm gonna bawl like a baby. It didn't help that everyone was all "Sorella Decker! You are dying! How do you feel? Blah blah blah" haha it was silly.

We had a ward missionary fireside this week, we watched the old '90s church production of the prodigal son on VCR. It was awesome :) we also went to the ward mission leader's home for lunch with him and his wife, they are the cutest couple. And they have such good hearts, they are doing so much to help the ward with their missionary work. He is organizing members to feed the missionaries, each companionship gets three appointments a week and there are three companionships. It's been pretty nice, all our groceries from last week stayed uneaten and now we don't need to go shopping today! It's a good thing we walk everywhere and it's a realllllly big city, otherwise I'd be getting pretty chubby.

There was a code red storm weather warning that lasted 36 hours, but ended up being a false alarm. Well, kind of. It poured buckets, but nothing that we hadn't seen before. I loved it though, it was gray and rainy all day :) we walked out to the hospital to see Gabriella and finish teaching her about the restoration, and at the end she asked us if she could be baptized!!! We are really excited for her and set a date for the 21st of November.

We were supposed to teach a member present lesson to Samuele and Teresa and everything was worked out perfectly until they got lost on the way to the church because they had to take a detour, and then they had to go and so did the member (she is getting ready to put her papers in, so it was a good intro to the mission life;). But we did find out that they are following the reading schedule calendar thing we gave them to read the Book of Mormon every day, which is SUPER exciting! They are on track to get baptized on the 14th. We got to go and teach Ann the plan of salvation and that went really well too, she accepted a baptismal date for November 14 as well :) there is so much work to do here, it is so satisfying to be busy on the Lord's errand. I feel like I am g thing to pay Him back in small measure for all the blessings I have received as part of my mission.

We also taught Iole and Gesualdo about recognizing the spirit. They are very well educated and well read people, they love learning and knowledge and stuff, but we talked about how we have to use spiritual instruments to discern spiritual light. By doing the things that invite the spirit and then really listening and paying attention to the feelings and thoughts that come, we will be able to recognize the voice of the spirit when it comes to us. It went really well, I really like them. Gesualdo worked as an independent genealogist for a long time and Iole is a historian, so we get along ;)

Our investigator Angela came to church, she has a super crush on one of the anziani which was kinda funny. But she knows the rules, so it's ok. She's been an investigator since February, and she said she really feels like the gospel has helped her to learn and grow and become a better person. She really wants to be baptized but her parents don't want her to even though she is almost 23, but she is going to work on them little by little:) we are really excited for her, and she is so sweet! She looks like an Italian Snow White with long long long curly hair. Like past her waist long. She is so lovely and so committed to the gospel.

We spent our Sunday evening so that I could rest and try to kick this dang cold that I got, I've had a low grade fever off and on and been really stuffy and coughy. I haven't gotten sick in a long time though, so I was due for something haha. We've been so busy this week too that I've made it a little worse by not resting, but we went and saw a less active and she gave me some ginger and lime to make an infusion out of to get rid of it. She says it works for her all the time so I figured I would give it a shot ;)

I love my new companion too, we are sort of the same person. We both love classy vintage and nautical things, food, caramel, and all sorts of other weird similarities that I can't remember. We have had so much fun getting to know each other :) I love having companions, it's the highlight of the mission because you see the continuous growth in that person and you get to help them as they help you. Its awesome.

Well, in conclusion I will leave you with the famous words of Ammon, the Book of Mormon missionary, as he testifies of his missionary service to his brothers: (I am trying to read the whole book in Italian before I come home and I am halfway done):

"Now have we not reason to rejoice? Yea, I say unto you, there never were men that had so great reason to rejoice as we, since the world began; yea, and my joy is carried away, even unto boasting in my God; for he has all power, all wisdom, and all understanding; he comprehendeth all things, and he is a merciful Being, even unto salvation, to those who will repent and believe on his name.

Now if this is boasting, even so will I boast; for this is my life and my light, my joy and my salvation, and my redemption from everlasting wo. Yea, blessed is the name of my God, who has been mindful of this people, who are a branch of the tree of Israel, and has been lost from its body in a strange land; yea, I say, blessed be the name of my God, who has been mindful of us, wanderers in a strange land.

Now my brethren, we see that God is mindful of every people, whatsoever land they may be in; yea, he numbereth his people, and his bowels of mercy are over all the earth. Now this is my joy, and my great thanksgiving; yea, and I will give thanks unto my God forever. Amen."
