Week 32: We Create Our Own Miracles

This week was awesome. It started with a super fun Pday at the Vatican because none of the new Ostia missionaries had been there, and then we just wandered around Rome with the anziani for a while. It was a ton of fun. Also, I have started to collect postcards because they are cheap and a great, non-space-needing way to remember all the places I have been.

Tuesday morning we went to do a member appointment with Angela Drobynko, the Ukrainian member who helps translate for our two Ukrainian investigators. We did a role play on how to leave commitments with people, because if we don't invite them to act then they will never know that there is an action to be made. So that went really well, and then she gave us free facials! She is the best. She does spa stuff like that for a living, so I am going to have her massage the crud out of my left shoulder, it has been giving me grief since like October. Then we jumped on a metro and left for Rome, because we had Zone Conference interviews with President! He's the best, he has such a dry sense of humor and he is so dedicated to helping become the best missionaries and the best people we can be. Then we hurried back to Ostia because we had English course that night! It was really fun, we were talking about our hobbies. Sorella Hansen plays the flute! And she loves to dance! We are like a match made in heaven, it is so great to work with her.

Wednesday was zone conference, we had a great time. My comp has always matched her companions at zone conference, and by some miracle she and I have the same skirt! SO we totally matched and everyone thought it was really cute :) The conference was as amazing as always. The STLs did a training on expecting and planning for miracles, there was a really big focus on planning even though the theme of the conference was Faith, and Fear Not. But I guess the best way to show your faith is to tell Heavenly Father what you plan is, do your best to follow through, and then you don't need to be afraid because you are doing your best. It was really cool and got us super pumped to work hard and be really effective planners this transfer. We both feel like this transfer is going to really help us be ready to train, because the mission is really young now. There are a ton of missionaries, especially sisters, who have gone home since I have been here, so we know it won't be long before we get called to train. I mean, this is my MTC companion's second transfer with her greenie, and she is STL this transfer too. She is just super brava (good). But still........SUPER SCARY. Heaven help my poor greenie, whoever she is.

Thursday we did some ricerca (literally: searching, or tracting) and we saw everyone coming out of a church, but we didn't know what was going on. It being a Thursday, we thought it could be a Mass. So we asked this lady and she said there was a funeral. We started talking to her, she said she goes to a lot of different churches but that she doesn't really have her own. We invited her to come to church with us on Sunday and she actually came for all three hours! Her name is Susana, she is from Peru. We are really excited about her :) Then we had a lesson with Mara, she is the mom of one of the ward members. We were going to teach the plan of salvation and really focus in on the family, but Barbara, the member who came to the lesson, mentioned something about the Holy Ghost, which Mara had a question about. She knows that he is important, but she was never taught his role. So we taught her about the Holy Ghost, and it was cool because we tied it in to how we have to learn the truth through the power of the Holy Ghost, especially about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith. So we read Moroni's promise (Moroni 10:3-5) and committed her to pray to find out if the Book of Mormon was true. It was a really good lesson.

Friday morning we went and saw Iolanda, the inactive sister who is like 72 and is trying to quit smoking. We knew we had to get in and get a prayer said right away so that we could start the lesson, because otherwise we end up just chatting for 30 minutes and then leaving a 15 minute spiritual thought. So we get in, say a prayer, and start talking about our covenants and how we show our love for Christ, and the power of the Atonement. There were SO MANY DISTRACTIONS. About halfway through the appointment I realized that Satan was trying really hard to keep our lesson from happening and having the Spirit, so I became even more determined to not let that happen. We were in there for maybe 10 minutes when the wind blew the balcony doors wide open, so we had to stop and shut those. Then one of her son's friends came and knocked on the door. Then her daughter called. Then another daughter showed up. Then the doors blew open again. It was really hard. While she was on the phone, we decided that we wanted to commit her to quit smoking for 24 hours, not because we were asking her to, but because of her love for the Savior.

We gave her the commitment (FINALLY) and she accepted! It was such a great experience. We went back the next day and had a great follow up lesson on the love of the Savior, and what charity really means. It means He will never give up on us, even when we don't think we are capable of changing, moving on, letting go-all because He loves us. I feel so blessed to be set apart as His representative to bring His Father's children the knowledge of who they are and what they are capable of with the help of Christ.

Saturday we met with a new investigator, Letizia, and had a great Restoration lesson with her. She is so sweet, she made us a pumpkin cake! It was delish.

Sunday was awesome because Marco and Noemi came to church with their mom and we were able to have a little lesson with them right after! It was so good. Plus the RS lesson got taught in Spanish because the presidency member doesn't speak Italian, and our Peruvian investigator Susana was there. So she got to listen to the lesson in her native language!

All in all I am happy, healthy, and ready to WORK this transfer. I am so excited because of all the potential that I can see in our area and our work, and I can't wait for things to just start exploding here!

I love you all! Have a great week, and never forget that we are all so important to our Heavenly Father that He sent His Son to die for us so that we could live with Him again. That is the beautiful message that I have been sent to share with the people of this country, and I couldn't be happier!

Buona settimana! Vi voglio bene!!!! (Have a good week. I love you all!)
