Week 28: ...."And a Happy New Year!"

Alright, not a whole ton of time today, but here is the weekly update!

I didn't do a whole lot to celebrate the New Year....we actually had to be home at 9 and in bed at 10:30 just like any other day. So that was lame. But there was a Nike 10k called We Run Rome that a bunch of missionaries did, so we went to that and saw a bunch of missionaries, which was fun. On New Year’s Day we got to deep clean the apartment (fun stuff...) and then we went to Rome for a bit because after we finish cleaning it becomes like a p-day.

We have two new investigators!!! It is kind of a weird situation because they don't really speak Italian, they're Ukrainian. So we have a member translate the lessons, and it was INCREDIBLE. The member wasn't translating answers to the questions we were asking which was a little concerning for me at first, so naturally I was praying my guts out the whole time, and then I just got this really calm sense that everything was going to be ok. I am so grateful for the Spirit! At the end of the lesson, she was just chatting with them in Ukrainian (or so I thought), but then she turned to me and said "ok they will be at church for sacrament meeting at 11:30, and then we are going to meet again all together at 11 on Saturday." She invited them to church and set up the next appointment without us even mentioning it! It was great. They didn't come to church, which was disappointing, but kind of for the best because the member wasn't there either, so there would have been no one to translate. Obviously the best thing is for them to be in church, but I am confident that it will work out with them.

We are going to show them the Restoration film the next time we meet so that we are 100% sure of everything being said, and then invite them to be baptized. We were going to in the first lesson, but the member sort of closed up shop on the lesson before we had a chance to testify. She shared her conversion story and testified to them about the Book of Mormon, and then closed things and started teaching them how to pray (I think), so we will be sure to prep her a little bit better for the next lesson. That wasn't something I had even thought about, but obviously it's a normal member present lesson and we should ask her to participate as well as translate. It is really good for her too, she is in a really hard point in her life but she is 150% willing to help us. It is so incredible.

Other than that, we did a few less active visits and tried to do finding in the freezing cold during the holidays. Needless to say we didn't have much success that we saw in key-indicators, but one of the biggest things I have learned on my mission is that a lot of times the work we do doesn't bear immediate fruit, and that is ok.

I love you all, and I wish you a Happy New Year!!!

Love,
Sorella Decker

ps: I will send pictures home next week!
