Hello everyone! I am SOOOOO sorry about the radio silence....let me tell you my tale:
Last Monday (8 dicembre) (week 24) was the last p-day of the transfer, so Sorella Margheriti and I went out to Rome so that we could say goodbye to all the missionaries who were going home. Sorella Patterson was a part of that group, so we arranged for Laban to come and say goodbye to her too. It was good to see her again! Then we went to the office and found some other missionaries to hang out with, friends of Slla M.; they had to cut their day short and be at the Villa (mission home) early. We went and did some sightseeing: Trevi fountain, piazza della libertà, and the Coloseo (coliseum)! We got on the internet for a bit to write our letters to president, and then we planned to get back on....but we ran out of time. So that is why I didn't email last week.

I GOT TRANSFERRED! I am now serving in a city called Ostia, which used to be Porta di Roma, or the port of Rome, a looong time ago. Our ward boundaries go from the Coliseum to the border of the Napoli zone. For those of you who don't have maps....it's like the state of New York (I'm probably exaggerating that...but I don't have access to maps either!)
The reason I am emailing on Wednesday instead of Monday is that we had zone conference Monday, so we got to move our Pday. So here we are! We are going to Ostia Antica today, which is the perfectly preserved ruins of the old port city here. SO COOL.
The last two weeks have been a really big blur of saying goodbye to people I love and meeting new people. We had so many member appointments! It was crazy. I had a pranzo and a cena (lunch and dinner) appointment on the same day for the first time in my life.....all I remember is good food and a lot of pain.
Thursday was transfers, and I met up with my new comp at the train station, and the two anziani from our ward came too to help with suit cases. One of them was in my MTC district! It's so cool to be serving with someone I already knew which is the case for my companion too! Sorella Barazoto and I met each other via Facebook before I went in to the MTC. She came in 6 weeks after me, right after I left the MTC. Which means....I am senior companion! TERRIFYING. When we found that out we both thought, "I sure hope President knows what he is doing!!" which of course he does because he is an inspired man. But ecco perchè (that’s why) the name of this email is, “The Blind Leading the Blind”. She has been out for three months, I have been out for four and a half. I am so glad that I got to serve with a native speaker last transfer, and for all the wonderful things Slla Margheriti and Slla Patterson taught me about being a diligent, obedient missionary. I still feel like I need an adult most of the time.... but we are having fun.

One of the perks of Rome 4 (that is the name of the ward here) and serving in Ostia is that they have a church building! They asked us to help clean it the first Saturday I was here and all I could think was, "Shoot, I will clean this place every day if they want me to!" There's also a ward here, which is a lot more people at church than I am used to. Everything is strange and overwhelming here, but it is beautiful and we are by the ocean! It is hard being the companion who is supposed to know what is going on and being brand new to the city, but it helps us rely on each other. Slla Barazoto is so fun, she is loud and she loves to sing and dance! We want to put a musical fireside together for missionaries, investigators, and new converts. It would help so much!
My brain is in a bit of a whirl right now, I am still trying to get settled in. Sorry if this is wanting in details!
We still don't have any Christmas plans... we are trying to make friends with the ward members as fast as we can. Wish us luck!
I love you all, and I hope you are enjoying this wonderful time of year. Don't forget that He is the Gift!!!
All my love,
Sorella Decker
