Week 12

Well, the end of the transfer is officially here... and I am NOT GETTING TRANSFERRED. I knew there was a huge possibility, with it being my first area and still having six weeks of training to do, but I am staying in Rome 5! (I think I’ll probably do like 4 transfers here actually. I am just really feeling like I will be here a while.)

This week was incredible. My birthday celebration was Monday, and thank you SO MUCH to all those who emailed me! It made my day to have all those to read. A special thanks to Lewis Evans, Mom's friend who served here. He had some really cool stories that I got to read!

I will send a bunch of pictures home soon, I promise. Last week the internet place we went to was super slow, and the pictures wouldn't upload. That and the fact that I can only upload like 3 per email...it’s a struggle.

Anywho. On my birthday p-day we went to the Vatican and then to the Gigante's for dinner. We had a friend who took us to the top of St. Peters. I’m sending a few postcards home so you can see where I was. It's the highest point in the city so you can see EVERYTHING. It was incredible. After that we went and walked through the Basilica, which was super huge and decadent and awe-inspiring. We went to the crypt underneath too, very “Da Vinci Code” ;) Mom, you will LOVE it. We got to see the Michelangelo's The Pieta Madonna sculpture (picture below) that's inside, which was crazy. Mostly I just really appreciated the history and culture of the place.

Everyone who is on Facebook has probably seen the video of me at the Gigante's by now. We had fondue, meat, and bread for dinner, with their wonderful ''Italian'' Sheet cake for desert. They are such good people. And Alessandra is Facebook friends with my whole family already....whatever! haha

Other than that, there's not much to report....except that Amède came to church on Sunday!!! Thank you all for your prayers. He really liked it. I think he is going to come this next Sunday, AND HE IS GETING BAPTIZED ON OCTOBER 18th!!!!! Same day as Laban :) I can’t believe it. I am so excited for him! Please keep both of them in your prayers.

Sorry this is so short; I still have to write to President Waddoups!! I am printing everyone's emails this week so that I can actually read them and hopefully I will be able to send some letters this week. I love you all so much, have a great week. I am learning a ton, and I love it here so much!!!

All my love,
Sorella Decker

Alessandra wanted to do something for Nicole's birthday, so she contacted us asking for the recipe for this "Texas Sheet Cake" that Nicole had mentioned. Alessandra's mom, Mamma Gigante, made their version of this cake for Nicole's birthday. They also helped show Nicole the Happy Birthday video that we made for her. We're so thankful for their love and help!
