Week 7 - In Italia

Ciao belli!!! SONO IN ITALIA!!!!!!! (Hello beautiful! I'm in Italy!!)

I don't have a ton time today, which bites because I have so much to say.

Starting off with my area and first companion!!! I am in ROMA with SORELLA PATTERSON!!! It's perfect here. The area is actually just outside Rome, called Passocorese, and is comprised of like 35 paesini (little towns). We have a car because we can't get to some of the members' places by mezzi (public transport). There's a set of Elders in our area too; Anz. Smith and Blair. Smith is in the same transfer as Sorella Patterson (14 months in) and Blair is in his third transfer here; he's still a greenie too!

Traveling here was a fun time. We almost lost two Anziani (Elders) in the Chicago airport before our transatlantic flight to London. They got separated from the group and didn't think it would be a good idea to find us before finding a phone bank to make calls from. SO LAME. SO SCARY. They made it onto the plane with about 45 seconds to spare.

We were only in London for about an hour. European security is a little different than it is in the states. So that was joyous. And we did have to do a second security check in London which was anche (very) lame.

We spent three hours in the Rome airport trying to get our luggage, and two of the Elders still had to come back at like 11:30 that night to pick up the last of their stuff. The biggest difference here is that everything runs slow; like, the whole country is in a vat of molasses slow.

Also, Aunt Sara, I got my first gelato on Thursday and I was true to my word - limone and melone!! SO GOOD. There is also a gelateria (gelato shop) literally across the street from my house, which is going to be not a good thing for me... hehehe

The day we got here Smith and Patterson had to go to the central city of our province, Rieti, to take care of permesso stuff (visa stuff). That's where we got the gelato :) Slla Patterson and I had to go back on Friday to do my permesso, but we ended up walking the city 3 times looking for a place where I could check my email because I had to print and sign something before we could take care of it... that was a bit of a nightmare... but we did some finding, so it was all good!

We went to Monterotundo on Saturday to do a mostra, which I will explain later when I have more time (also remind me to tell you about the coffee in Rieti). We ended up talking with this lady, Benvenuta, who has had it with the Catholic church because of all the corruption in the Vatican. She said she's atheist because she's tried other churches too and she didn't like any of them. We had a lesson with her on the park bench where we were, and set up an appointment to teach her more on Wednesday! FIRST NEW INVESTIGATOR! And, when I say "we"... I mean Slla Patterson did the lesson and I had the grandkids teach me Italian and I taught them English. It was a beautiful exchange.

That's really all I have time for. I love you all and appreciate your love, support, and prayers!

Buona settimana! (Have a good week!)

Love,
Sorella Decker
